Roads and pavements

Separation and reinforcement layers that let roads and hardstands carry traffic over soft or variable ground with less aggregate.

Weak subgrades rut, and they pump fine soil up into the stone base so the road loses strength long before its design life. A geotextile between subgrade and aggregate keeps the layers apart, while a geogrid or geocell in the base confines the stone and spreads wheel loads over a wider area.

The result is a thinner or longer-lasting base for the same traffic. Typical uses include rural and urban roads, haul roads, container yards, industrial hardstands and working platforms for cranes and piling rigs.

Products used

  • PP Biaxial Geogrid

Punched and drawn polypropylene grid with equal strength in both directions, used to stabilise weak subgrades and strengthen granular bases.
